Prior to starting up The Boyd Group, Donovan served as an intern in the urban marketing department for Atlantic Records. He spent 2 years as a Marketing Director for a local charter school in Cleveland, OH while maintaining an Artist management and promotional company for 4 years. Everyone gets asked, "What do you want to be when you grow up," or "Where do you see yourself in five years?" I've never been able to answer those questions. All I've ever known for sure is that I want to help people. Cliche? Maybe. True? Absolutely. Because when I think about what sets my soul on fire, it's knowing that I've eased someone's burden or helped them see a new perspective, or ignited even a tiny glimmer of hope. I do that by sharing my story. That's why I speak. My primary message is that no matter what you've been through, you have to decide you will use it to grow you. Only you can make the future better by taking responsibility. It isn't fair, and it most certainly isn't easy. But YOU make the choice. These are high expectations, but I also believe in high love. I believe people need space to experience and deal with their problems. We can't pretend people don't have pain. We have to give credibility to it. But we can't allow it to become an excuse. I believe it's one of the most hopeful messages I could share: no matter what has happened to you or around you, you get to choose how you experience it in you. Will you cave to the negativity, or will you leverage what was meant to hurt you to propel you to your greatest purpose? I believe that's how we change the world. People who have been bruised and scarred become willing to show up, tell the truth about who they are, where they've been, and how they were able to overcome. Lights shining in the dark places. For I believe where there is light, there is no darkness at all.

At age 8, I begin to notice I was different. I had an obsession for the late Sylvia Brown Medium/Psychic. I often went to the library to take out books about magic. I was bullied extremely bad and was taken on a bicycle ride with my friends and end up getting left at a graveyard. I had to find my way back. At age 11 I felt trapped and decided I would take my Mom headache pills to just be free, unaware that death meant gone forever, I made it through. I went for it again, this time my Mom said to me words that touched my soul. She said Erica do you know when you go, you’re not coming back for Christmas. I was shocked. I never tried to take my life again. I realized as I got older that we assume kids or people should know but everybody doesn’t. I speak to the soul and I receive messages from a god and Angels to help people heal. I’m a motivational spiritual coach and a spiritual healer.

Kevin Alderson, PhD, is a professor emeritus of counselling psychology from the University of Calgary Dr. Alderson is a highly-respected counselling and clinical psychologist in the counselling and psychotherapy field with over 30 years of direct experience. He is President of the College of Alberta Psychologists until September 2019, the regulatory body for psychological practice in Alberta, Canada. Dr. Alderson is a professional member of the Association for Addiction Professionals, and currently sits on the editorial board for the Journal of Alcoholism, Drug Abuse & Substance Dependence and the Austin Journal of Drug Abuse and Addiction. He also holds membership in the American Counseling Association, the American Psychological Association, the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, and the Canadian Psychological Association. Since 2008, Dr. Alderson has been the editor-in-chief of the Canadian Journal of Counselling and Psychotherapy, which is the only national peer-reviewed journal in the counseling and psychotherapy field in Canada. He currently works half-time for Yorkville University as their director for a proposed online doctor of counselling and psychotherapy degree program. Dr. Alderson is an author of 10 books and is a recognized expert in addictions, hypnotherapy, and sexology. Regarding addictions, he specializes in substance (including drugs and alcohol) and behavioural addictions (e.g., gambling, sex, Internet, online gaming). He has written a textbook for Sage Publications, one of the leading publishers of textbooks in the United States, called Addictions Counseling Today: Substances and Addictive Behaviors, which will be released December 2019. He completed a MSc in clinical, school, and community psychology from the University of Calgary, and a PhD in counselling psychology at the University of Alberta. Dr. Alderson is married and is the father of two adult children. Outside of counselling, he enjoys racket sports, dancing, hiking, camping, and weight training.
