Gesine is an expert on European security and defence, geopolitics, and Europe's role in US-China competition. She is currently a Visiting Scholar at the Arnold A. Saltzman Institute for War and Peace Studies at Columbia University, where she works on a research project on Europe's approaches to the Indo-Pacific in the context of US-China competition. She is also finishing her PhD thesis on European defence at the Defence Studies Department of King's College London.
