The Best YouTube Channels for Public Speakers

Different people learn in different ways, and while we know that a lot of you learn well from reading blog posts like these, we also know that a lot of people prefer to learn from podcasts, webinars and YouTube channels.

No matter how you learn, you should bear in mind that the saying that practice makes perfect is just as true for public speaking as it is for other disciplines, and so arguably the best thing that you can do is to get out there and give live talks to an audience.

But for those of you who learn well from YouTube, today’s article is for you. We’ve pooled our favorites and done some additional research to bring you our list of the ten best YouTube channels for public speakers.

So if you’re ready to get started, let’s dive on in.

The Best YouTube Channels for Public Speakers

1.  How Communication Works

How Communication Works teaches us all sorts of communication skills, and their lessons aren't just designed for public speakers. You can expect lessons on empathy, persuasion and active listening to sit alongside those on delivering presentations and leading conferences. The channel is led by a research scientist who's also a college professor, teacher and consultant, so you can rest assured that you’re learning from the best in the business.

2. Tony Robbins

Tony Robbins has a stellar reputation as one of the world's most sought-after public speakers, and he's also known for hosting seminars and writing self-help books designed to help people follow in his footsteps. His YouTube channel offers a little bit of everything, from short tips and tricks to full episodes of his podcast. You can learn a lot from his lessons, and he’s also worth watching because you can pick up tips just from emulating the way he goes about things.

3.  Charisma On Command

The videos that Charisma On Command uploads are designed to help you be more confident and charismatic, which includes tips on making people laugh or coming across as being more likable. They won't necessarily teach you to deliver a memorable presentation, but they will teach you skills that will stand you in good stead throughout your career. It’s a fantastic channel to supplement what you learn from the other channels we feature here.

4. Toastmasters International

Toastmasters International is a worldwide organization that’s all about providing people with opportunities to take to the stage to practice their public speaking. Their YouTube channel is home to videos on a variety of topics, from speaker profiles to how-to videos on subjects like speaking with confidence and picking a captivating topic. It’s not always the most engaging of channels, but it’s still worth subscribing to.

5.  Communication Coach Alexander Lyon

Alexander Lyon is a professional public speaking coach, presenter, workshop leader and consultant who's been involved in the speaking industry for over twenty years. As well as working a full-time tenure as a professor at a New York college, he publishes his own research, has written a couple of books and, of course, he has his YouTube channel. He’s a busy guy!

6. Free Online Communication Training

The name of this channel tells you pretty much everything you need to know. Headed by Dan O'Connor, this channel features a whole heap of advice, with recent uploads on leaving toxic meetings and setting boundaries. Dan also has a free communication kit that you can download if his videos alone aren't enough for you.

7. Skillopedia

Skillopedia is exactly what it sounds like, a YouTube channel that does for skills what Wikipedia does for knowledge. Admittedly, it's not solely designed with public speaking in mind, but it does have a few recent uploads on the subject, as well as hacks on developing creativity and handling insults and criticism. It’s not the main public speaking channel that we’d recommend, but it’s good as a supplement to what you’re already doing.

8.  Success Wheels

Success Wheels' big tagline is that they'll teach you to communicate like a pro. As well as providing a decent selection of YouTube videos for you to learn from, you can also download free PDF summaries of many of the lessons, and there are new videos each and every week, meaning you won’t find yourself waiting forever for updates. That’s not something that could be said of all YouTube channels.

9. MasterTalk

Describing his creation, MasterTalk's Brenden Kumarasamy says, "This is the channel I wish I could have subscribed to when I first started working on my communication skills." He doesn't have quite as much experience as some of the other presenters we've talked about, but you can't knock his enthusiasm and he's pretty consistent at uploading a new video every Sunday. If you want to learn more about presentation skills, he also offers a free workshop that's designed to help you to become a top 1% communicator in your industry.

10. Practical Psychology

Practical Psychology is more about psychology than public speaking, but it's also about harnessing the power of psychology to increase your success in the workplace. It has a little bit of everything on offer, from animated book reviews to motivational videos and tutorials on everything from finances to productivity, personal development and presenting to an audience. It’s one that you’ll want to subscribe to even if you’re picky about which of their uploads you actually watch.
