James Furey, CFA, is a founder and Managing Partner of Furey Research Partners (FRP) and Spyglass Research (SPY) headquartered in Newport Beach, CA. FRP, founded in 2008, provides comprehensive macro strategy focused on small-cap equities to 130 institutional clients. SPY, founded in 2018, provides macro strategy insights on all US asset classes aimed at RIAs, Family Offices and high net worth individuals. Mr. Furey writes research, meets with clients, and oversees both firms. Prior to FRP, Mr. Furey was a Managing Director and Head of The Furey Group at Neuberger Berman, a subsidiary of Lehman Brothers, where he managed small-cap money. Prior to that, Mr. Furey ran Small-Cap Strategy at Lehman Brothers and was a member of the Lehman Brothers Equity Research Investment Policy Committee. Mr. Furey joined Lehman Brothers in May 2002. In 2006, Mr. Furey was voted multiple times to Institutional Investor’s All-America Research team, including twice being named “First Team” Small-Companies Analyst/Strategist. Prior to joining Lehman, Mr. Furey held the same position at JPMorgan. In 1998, he was a founding member of Atlantic Capital Management in Richmond, VA, a small-cap institutional equity manager, where he was a portfolio manager and analyst from 1998 to 1999. Mr. Furey ran client service and marketing at Amerindo Investment Advisors from 1996 to 1998 and worked at Morgan Stanley from 1988 to 1996 where he was US Director of Operations, Equity Research after being an institutional equity salesperson. From 1983 to 1986 he worked at Bankers Trust in corporate finance. He has appeared on CNBC as well as Bloomberg TV and radio. Mr. Furey received a BA in History in 1983 from Princeton University and received an MBA from Dartmouth's Amos Tuck School of Business Administration in 1988.
